No visit to Lynton and Lynmouth would be complete without a visit to Watersmeet, this famous beauty spot lies in a wooded tree lined gorge, where the East lyn river and Hoar Oak water meet, now owned and maintained by the National Trust.
The old fishing lodge at Watersmeet is now a lovely tea room and shop, a welcome refreshment break after your walk. The best time to walk to Watersmeet is after a heavy spell of rain when you will see the fast flowing river and waterfalls. www.lyntonandlynmouth.info

The Lynmouth Flood Of 1952
In 2002 the people of Lynton and Lynmouth marked the 50th anniversary of the Lynmouth flood disaster of 15th August 1952.
Early evening on that eventful day at the height of the summer in August 1952 after very heavy rainful during the day, a massive torrent of water rushed down the valley, engulfing in its path, property, roads and houses were literally washed away into the sea.
The following morning revealed the true extent of the tradgedy the previous night, 34 people lost their lives that night and damage to houses was irreparable. Many local people today still remember that night, and the devastation and upset it caused.
